An introduction to Vedic cosmography based on Srimad Bhagavatam

This lively workshop will share a fundamental understanding of the cosmography through the words of Srimad-Bhagavatam – an essential sacred text of the Bhakti tradition. It will help us make sense of a subject which is as enigmatic as it is fascinating. Attendees will become acquainted with the Vedic view of the universe and some of its current interpretations.

The central mystery of this ancient text is the concept of Bhu-mandala (the earth disk). At first glance one might take it as an intricately mythological description of a flat earth. However, its astronomical proportions, its geometrical and geographic features, and its correlations with the architecture of temples, are so accurately aligned to astronomical phenomena that it makes one wonder if there might be a deeper understanding of Bhu-mandala. A closer look reveals unexpected depths of knowledge: a sophisticated system with multiple levels of meaning that encode different astronomical, geographical, and spiritual world models.

What Will Be Covered:

  • Creation in the Vedic tradition
  • Astronomy of the Bhagavad Purana
  • The Solar System in the Vedic-Hindu scriptures
  • Understanding the Multidimensional Universe of the Vedas
  • Alien Identities in the Vedic-HIndu Scriptures
