Kirtan Philosophy Course

The history and culture of kirtan including practical workshops

Dates: Tuesdays, 6th February - 10th April 2018 (10 weeks)

Did you ever want to learn the history and culture that surrounds kirtan? Discover history, methodology and practical insights of the most fundamental Vaishnava practice under guidance of a highly experienced kirtaneer.

Course Outline:

Part 1: Theory (5 weeks)
Open to all

  • History and culture of kirtan
  • Understanding the mood of a kirtaneer
  • The qualifications needed to be kirtaneer
  • Learning kirtan standards and etiquette
  • The 8 teachings of kirtan based on Śikṣāṣṭakam

Part 2: Practical (5 weeks)
Basic instrument playing knowledge is required for participation

  • Seeing kirtan as a service
  • Performing kirtan as a group
