Month of Kartik

Date: 6th October - 3rd November
Lamp offering timings: 7am & 7pm

Devotees eagerly await the arrival of Kartik every year, when they sing the Damodarastakam prayers and extend their heartfelt love and devotion as they offer ghee lamps before their Lord in the Temple.

Kartika is glorified in the Puranas as very special for making spiritual advancement. This month is also known as Damodar, since in the middle of this month, the Lord performed His very enchanting Damodar Lila. Kartika month also represents Radharani, and devotees perform special austerities to gain Her favour.

The Puranas (Vedic histories) extol the month of Kartik as the topmost in the calendar. Lord Krishna’s mercy is very easily accessible in this month and to demonstrate their sincerity devotees accept different austerities such as fasting, cutting down on non-essential activities and offering charity. Worship of Tulsi and serving Lord Krishna's cows is especially glorified.

Kartik, or the Month of Damodara, is a month for deepening one's bhakti practice. Devotees eagerly await the arrival of Kartik every year, when they can sing the Damodarastakam prayers (a series of eight beautiful verses by the great sage Satyavrata Muni) in the morning and evening and extend their heartfelt love and devotion as they offer ghee lamps before their Lord in the temple.

Join us for this most wonderful celebration all-month at 7am & 7pm. Everyone will have the opportunity to engage in the ritual of offering a ghee wick to Their Lordships along with the singing of the Damodarastakam prayers.

Note: The month of Kartik begins on 6th October. However those who make a Kartik-vrata (vow) should start on the 5th October on the full moon (Purnima). The vrata is concluded on the full moon (Purnima) on 3rd November.
